We are preparing a series of articles which will contrast 2 wines and explain the differences which may exist between them: why they occur and how these differences might originate. The series will be ongoing into the forseeable future and they are entitled Fine Wine: Take 2.
It will not always be the case that the wines in question are very similar, or originate from similar or even contiguous terroir. But, sometimes they will: for example, future articles we are working include Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac, Château Grand Puy Lacoste and Château Ducru Beaucaillou, Champagne Amour de Deutz and Champagne Femme de Champagne, Duval-Leroy. The examples may involve wines which are quite distinct even if they apparently share a common characteristic(s) eg. wines made from Pinot Noir (Oregon and Burgundy), a Chardonnay from Burgundy and one made in, say Friuli (Italy), or in our first example which will be published soon: Bollinger Special Cuvée and Bruno Paillard Première Cuvée. The purpose is to distinguish the taste and styles and how they originate.
The structure of each article is broadly the same. Tasting notes on the wine. Examination of the difference in the taste and style followed by an explanation of how this might be achieved.
